Hair-loom (bad pun, sorry.)

What's cooler than being elderly and having grey hair?

Being young and having grey hair, apparently.

That sounds mocky, but I actually love this new hair trend that is allegedly going by 'granny hair'. I do however, think that you have to be one of those people who can pull it off because I'd definitely look like an idiot. A ton of celebrities are rocking the look or have in the past few months including Cara Delevingne.

Brooke Bohan, a hair colorist from FOUR London says that this new look is rather tricky to achieve.

"It can look totally fabulous if done professionally, but beware it is the hardest of all the colours to achieve with no damage to the hair...It will usually take around six months to get hair to the gorgeous grey colour, depending on how much colour build-up the client already has on their hair. You have to grow out as much of the existing colour as possible."

She also advises you only go to a professional salon, which I would do on a normal basis if I wasn't so cheap and stubborn.

Any of you rocking this cool look?

Choose Beautiful

Dove's new 'Choose Beautiful' campaign video made me cry. It's a pretty simple concept:

In 5 cities around the world, Dove labelled two doors next to each other. One 'Beautiful' and one 'Average'.

I think this is interesting for a few reasons.

1. It shows how much we really do care what others think of us. Even though some days I may feel beautiful, I would never have walked through the Beautiful door in fear that nobody around thought the same way about me. This also seemed to be the case for several women in the video.

2. It shows how afraid a lot of women everywhere are to admit that they feel beautiful. I for one, would never use that word if asked to describe how i see myself. It's not that I particularly hate anything about myself, I just tend to be very self-critical about my appearance.

3. On the flip side, it also shows how empowering something as simple as a word above a door can be. Women who spent days going through the 'Average' door started to feel more average. One woman said after a few days she chose to go through the 'Beautiful' door and she felt a change. She felt confident, and proud.

Is releasing the fear of being 'beautiful' and embracing it all it takes to really feel beautiful?
What do you think?

#ImNoAngel

Last year almost 10 million people watched the Victoria's Secret Fashion show. Let that sink in for a second.

Lane Bryant (an American plus-size clothing line) is not-so-subtly throwing some shade at Victoria's Secret, and has launched a new ad that features the hashtag '#ImNoAngel'. The message is simply that beauty is not defined by any specific type/size of woman, but by every woman.

I'm pretty cool with this whole thing myself. Before anyone gets angry, they aren't by any means 'skinny shaming', but more trying to point out the negative in companies who only focus on one extreme in their advertising/target market. At least that's how I see it.

Here's the commercial.

So far, the #ImNoAngel campaign is all over instagram, with women proudly showing off their curves and of course the corresponding hashtag. Let's support each other no matter what size we are. Way to spread the love, Lane Bryant. (and the shade.) You rule.

REVLON: FROST AND GLOW

I know i’m not the only Jessie James Decker fan girl. Her hair, music and lifestyle is something worth wanting. I love her personality and the fact she never really cares what people think, but still has so much self respect. I’ve been searching for the perfect “golden but not yellow, but not brown, but light, but not blonde” hair forever. She has it. When I came across her youtube channel there was a video that showed how to get her hair colour. I was not expecting her to say she does her own hair. It’s so hard to trust coloured box dyes and I’d just always would stay away from them until I saw this. I’ve been using Frost and Glow ever since I saw that video and it has given me that dream colour i’ve been looking for. It’s only 10$ AND I do it myself. It’s kind of idiot proof. Even though I have experience from dying and cutting hair from school, I still was terrified to do this on myself, it ended up being less than a 45 min process and my wallet thanks me. Here’s a link to Jessie’s video where I found this product:

*Note: The box design of this dye has changed every time i’ve bought it. Just because the design is not the same from these pictures or video doesn’t mean its not the same product, just read the name and you should find it.

OLAY: PRO-X EXFOLIATING RENEWAL CLEANSER:

I’ve been using this cleanser for about 6-8 months. I find Olay products always work best with my skin and I always see immediate results compared to any other brand. I’ve heard that it takes up to 6 months for a cleanser to really work- I don’t know anyone with that patience or time. But after using this product constantly I really have noticed improvement every month. It helped that it did have immediate results because I would have never kept using it because i’m stubborn. Just as a reference, I have “combination skin”, acne scars, and minimal breakouts. I love that this product is offered at the drugstore and isn’t going to break your bank. It is around 20$ but lasts an extremely long time and is on sale often, I have found it at Walmart on sale for 9$ once (Just keep an eye out).

Let's Talk About BODY IMAGE: Vol. 1
The 'One Size Fits All' Concept

I've heard there are some stores these days that sell clothes in one size. I used to get annoyed when I would see the term 'one size fits all' on hats and scarves and things- because what if someone had an abnormally large head? Or  a small head? We don't group expect people to all wear the same size shoes. Why? Because everyone has different sized feet. Do why jeans, shirts and dresses? Take a look at this BuzzFeed video, where women of different sizes try on some of these 'one size fits all' clothes.

What I don't like about this new fad is that it's very exclusive- it makes people who can't fit into these clothes believe they aren't of an accepted shape or size. It sends the message that 'all' people who should be able to wear this certain brand of clothing should be a certain body type or a certain weight.

The solution to this 'one size fits all' is pretty simple- SIZES. Let women and men go into a store, and find what they like to wear in their SIZE. There's no shame in wearing an extra-large tank top if it fits you the right way. 'One size fits all' isn't saving anyone the time or the trouble. Sure, nobody likes to spend hours trying things on but until we're rich and can afford to have our entire wardrobes custom made or tailored, it's a small price to pay for looking and feeling beautiful in the body you are in.

One size never fits all.
