After years of bottle blonde hair and impossibly proportioned hips, Mattel has finally put out a more realistic line of Barbies.
The new line of dolls comes in three different body sizes: tall, petite, and curvy. In the 57 years that Barbie's been around, this is admittedly her biggest transformation. The company even had a secret code name for it, "Project Dawn" (as in 'of a new day').
This may seem like such a trivial change, but the fact that young people can now go to the store and see things that are more of a representation of themselves can have a hugely positive affect on them. Of course, now people are complaining that it's still 'not enough' change and are requesting a makeover for Barbie in the TV/film versions as well as a similarly reinvented Ken, but Rome wasn't built in a day people. The dolls will be available in stores later this year.
My 7-year-old self is really into this.
